Days of our lives
An 80km hike up a mountain is not for the faint-hearted! But our kids took it in their stride – literally – to earn three bronze and one silver award at the President’s Awards ceremony in November 2019.
Apart from demonstrating the determination and grit necessary to complete tough physical challenges, these children also did community service at old age homes, animal shelters and other children’s homes, and participated in walks to create awareness around human trafficking and cancer. What amazing young people they are becoming!
Our Aardklop dance team, trained by Beat Rockers Academy of Dance, won the group category in the Gauteng Dancer of the Year championships. Two of the kids were also placed second in the duo category.
Our boys are now official members of Belgravia Bowling Club in Bedfordview, which has kindly sponsored all the bowling kit. They play in the Trips league on Saturday afternoons. The team competes at various levels and one of our provincial bowlers has been selected to play in the Gauteng Challenge in Pretoria.
With the focus on entrepreneurial skills development, our Siya Sebenza (we are working) kids baked and sold 300 cupcakes at Sylvia’s Pass Spring Market.
Protective Behaviours ran a personal safety programme with all 64 of our children. Together with self defence classes, the aim was to enhance self confidence, assertiveness and self protection.
