Programmes
Every child that enters our doors has suffered trauma as a result of the abuse they have experienced. Our mission is to heal the harm and put the pieces back together.
As a direct result of their early childhood experiences, most of our children are behind at school – and many need one on one intervention to help them catch up. Many have below average language, reading, writing and mathematical skills. Others lack physical abilities – both fine (cutting, colouring bead threading) or large (climbing, catching, swinging) motor development.
Most of the children have low self esteem and lack social skills; some are fearful or anxious, while others display inappropriate sexual knowledge or aggressive behaviour.
Almost every one of them can be helped … through the correct intervention programmes. The Johannesburg Children’s Home employs a team of social workers and highly skilled therapists, dedicated to helping our children rediscover the joy of childhood … and get their lives back on track so they can grow into healthy, well-balanced and successful young adults.
Your help makes all the difference – whether you make a financial contribution or give of your time. Together we can help these children reach their full potential.
DEVELOPMENT
Through our Developmental Programmes, we are able to build on their strengths by equipping them with appropriate skills in development, leadership training, mentoring and general life skills.
EDUCATION
We maintain regular contact with all these schools through our Social Workers & Child & Youth Care Workers – ensuring that our children achieve their educational goals from primary school to high school.
