Help develop the skills they need to thrive
A safe place to live, healthy meals, and loving care and support are essential for a child’s development. But what happens beyond that? What happens when a child has been traumatised, angry, or simply doesn’t know how to cope with life’s challenges?
At the Johannesburg Children’s Home, we believe in more than just survival. We want our children to flourish. And that’s why we run a range of specialised Developmental and Therapeutic Programmes that give each child the tools they need to heal, grow, and live independently one day.
But these programmes come at a cost – for staff training, equipment, materials, and transport. That’s why your support today means so much to our children.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) is just one example of the programmes available to our children. This therapy helps children regulate their emotions, build resilience, and develop interpersonal skills – all within a framework that promotes self-worth and hope. It’s part of our behaviour modification programme that equips children to build “a life worth living.”
We also offer other holistic programmes tailored to our children’s individual needs:
- Closer 2 Home helps reconnect children with their biological families where possible.
- Siyasabenza and Home Skills teach vital life skills like cooking, cleaning, and financial literacy for independent living.
- Siphamandla and Speak Up empower children to debate, advocate for themselves, and develop strong personal values.
- Aardklop, art, music therapy, and ballet provide emotional healing and confidence building through creative expression.
- One Goal, One Dream encourages physical well-being through soccer, yoga, and sports days.
- Siyatutuka supports academic growth through tutoring, coding, robotics, and homework help.
Each programme is designed to meet the child where they are – emotionally, mentally, and physically – and help them take the next step towards becoming the best version of themselves.
Please will you donate now to keep these life-changing programmes running?
Your donation is an investment in a child’s future. You’ll help them recover from past trauma and grow into happy, successful young adults. And when ‘your’ child finally believes, “I can do this,” you’ll know it’s all thanks to your generosity.
Your contribution – made today – will help give a child the skills and support they need to thrive in their future.
As a Public Benefit Organisation, we would provide you with a Section 18a Tax Certificate.
The Johannesburg Children’s Home is a level 1 B-BBEE status. Over 75% of our beneficiaries are Black (as per the B-BBEE codes), positively affecting your scorecard under the SED cluster.
