Annette Brokensha Obituary

In loving memory of Annette Brokensha

The past weeks have been very painful and trying for the staff, community and family of JCH. On 15 June 2023 we lost a mother, sister, friend and our pillar – our Managing Director, Annette Brokensha – after a short illness.

Annette was well known in NGO circles, and in particular the children’s sector. For over 20 years, she dedicated her life’s work to the development of children, initially as Assistant Director at Childline Gauteng, and then as Managing Director here at JCH.

Annette was a vibrant, enthusiastic and caring leader, much loved by the staff and children. She was passionate about providing holistic quality care for the most vulnerable children in the city, as well as ensuring the longevity of the Home by implementing a self-sustainability strategy.

We will honour Annette’s legacy by striving to maintain all the amazing projects she initiated; we are grateful to the board of governors for their support and guidance.

At the heart of JCH is our children. We are committed to providing them with education, therapeutic and developmental initiatives, and constantly remind ourselves of JCH’s vision: Young people achieving their potential and making positive contri- butions to their future and society.

I will be acting Managing Director for JCH as we maintain the core functions of the Home. I thank our staff members for their professionalism and dedication. It is a pleasure to work with this amazing team.

Annette you will be sorely missed by everyone; you will be forever a part of The Johannesburg Children’s Home.
