I saw my dad do it
Most children learn the skills of daily living by watching and copying what their parents do. Everything from how to change the plug on an electrical appliance to cooking rice is easier if you’ve seen, or helped, your mom or dad do it.
Kids who grow up in a Children’s Home lack those early opportunities to observe and imitate – and need to be taught skills like navigating public transport, cooking a meal or ironing a shirt. Even grocery shopping can be daunting for an inexperienced youngster.
Our SiyaSebenza Programme teaches kids aged 16 and up these essential skills, enabling them to prepare for life as independent adults. We also regularly enrol our teens in sessions like the Deloitte Entrepreneurs Day, where they learn how to create a CV, handle a job interview and explore job hunting strategies.
