Play therapist helps children adjust and heal

In May 2022, our resident play therapist, Naadiya Shaik Omar celebrated a year’s service at JCH. Naadiya is an HPCSA registered Arts Therapist who works at several NGOs and in private practice. She works with adults, adolescents and children addressing an array of issues including trauma, bereavement, anxiety, depression, and behavioural difficulties.

Here’s what Naadiya had to say of her time with us:

“Coming from a background in community counselling and clinical interventions, I have gained skills that have enabled me to understand what our children are feeling and experiencing, and how they understand the world around them.

“My work at JCH has involved supporting the children through difficult emotions and adjusting to the changes life has thrown their way. I believe that with someone who believes in them, and a secure base to come home to, these children may realise their full potential and soar to new heights.

“Having already gained such rich knowledge and experience from the children at JCH, I am motivated to effect more social change and healing. My ultimate aim in my work is to equip children with the emotional security needed to strive through difficult situations far beyond their time at JCH. Our children are so adaptable, resilient, and inspiring, and I look forward to every day with them.”
