Precious food lost during power outage
Towards the end of last year, our local substation burnt out and new cables had to be installed. We were without power for a total of 12 days, during which all the food in our freezers defrosted.
Even though we didn’t have a full month’s supply on ice at the time, the loss was still considerable. We had to organise a smaller fridge and freezer and buy food on a daily basis during the outage.
When you hear that our meat bill is around R30 000 per month, dairy is R10 000 and veggies around R5 000, you’ll understand what a devastating blow this was.
If you are able to help us restock our fridges and freezers, it would be a huge help.
We would be grateful for any donations of meat, eggs, cheese, milk, vegetables and fruit, as well as pantry staples.
Alternatively, if you prefer to donate cash or food vouchers, we can replace items as and when needed, without fear of overstocking or further losses.
